The Eagles beat Bulldogs to advance to 2 and 1 on the season

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It was homecoming on Gibson Field Thursday night; Alexa York was crowned homecoming queen, and following the festivities, your Golden Eagles of Jacksboro hosted the Wartburg Central Bulldogs. Both the Eagles and Bulldogs were fresh off of wins, Jacksboro against Jefferson and Wartburg over Harriman.

Jacksboro’s front line and backfield really shined. The offensive line was led by Jackson Noe, Hunter Norman, Mason Wilson, Porter Bostic, and James Walker.

Their play allowed the backfield of Jack Sexton, Thomas Wilson, and Avander Demott to really show off their skills. All three Eagles broke off huge runs in Thursday’s contest, with Wilson and Sexton scoring touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the football it was much of the same. Many of the same players on the offensive line, alongside Weston Kivett, found themselves in the Wartburg backfield quite frequently. Jacksboro played “lock-down defense” only allowing Wartburg to get on the board once.

A couple other keys to the Eagle’s success were playing, for the most part, penalty free football. Jacksboro was only charged with one penalty the entire game.

Another key was Jacksboro’s ability to control the clock. The Eagles took up most of the third quarter on one drive that resulted in points. Jacksboro limited Wartburg to only five possessions.

JMS Head Coach Cody Parker was proud of his football team. He said that it wasn’t pretty all the time, but overall he was very pleased that his Eagles got the job done.

Up next is a division game at Huntsville. The game, being played at Scott High School’s football field, kicks off at 7pm. Clayton Carroll and Robert Kirby send you all the live radio coverage beginning at 6:45pm over the WLAF-Doyle’s Tire Sports Network. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/06/2024-6AM)
