Eagles 40 Huntsville 8

HUNTSVILLE, TN (WLAF)- It was a rainy Thursday evening in Scott County as your Eagles traveled to take on the Bears of Huntsville. It was the first of two district games for Jacksboro, the other one being LaFollette. Huntsville defeated LaFollette earlier in the season 24-8.

The rain gave Huntsville fits on its opening possession. After driving deep into Jacksboro territory, that drive quickly ended due to a bad snap which Jacksboro recovered. Jack Sexton took the free possession and ran with it, literally. Three plays later Sexton took a jet sweep all the way to the end zone, and Thomas Wilson punched in the two point conversion.

Jacksboro’s defense played lights-out against Huntsville, only allowing eight points, and those eight points were given up by Jacksboro’s second string.

The Golden Eagle offense really shined on Thursday night, having its best performance all year, both on the ground and through the air. Sexton reeled off a couple more long touchdown runs; Avander Demott tacked on quite a few yards with some big carries, also punching in a pair two point conversions. Jessie Chapman, Jacksboro’s starting quarterback, joined the fun as he connected with a wide open Max Stanfill in the back of the end zone for yet another touchdown.

None of that would have been possible if not for the outstanding play of the Jacksboro offensive line consisting of Jaxson Noe, Curtis Sizemore, Hunter Norman, Mason Wilson, Jonathan Garcia, and James Walker.

The memorable hit of the night on defense came from Jacksboro’s Easton Ayers who leveled a Huntsville Bear sending a loud crack throughout the stadium. Jacksboro Head Coach Cody Parker when referring to Ayers said that, “He is the definition of dynamite comes in small packages.” Also, Porter Bostic was a beast on the defensive line. Sexton, Kayden Wallen, Braxton  McEndree, and Stanfill also had some textbook tackles on the night.

Thursday night was an example of Jacksboro putting its foot on the gas and never letting off. The Eagles never trailed during their 40-8 victory.

Coach Parker was extremely proud of his team. He said the Eagles “settled in and bowed their necks.” On one drive in the third quarter, Jacksboro having the running clock on its side due to leading by more than 30 points, ran its offense through fullback Thomas Wilson the entire drive, sapping all of the clock of the third quarter. Parker said that referring to the smash mouth style of football on that drive and throughout the game, “We’re gonna pound ya.” He said that he wants his team to “be peaking when it matters,” and he thinks they are on a “good trajectory” to be where they need to be.

Up next for Jacksboro is Soldiers Memorial. The game is scheduled to be played at Claiborne High School. The Golden Eagles advance to 3 and 1 in all games, and 1 and 0 in district play. Jacksboro and the Blue Devils of Soldiers kick off at 7pm. Clayton Carroll and Robert Kirby will send you the coverage next Thursday beginning at 6:50pm over AM 1450 and FM 100.9 WLAF Radio and the other various media outlets that make up the WLAF-Doyle’s Tire Sports Network.
