The man known as Chops welcomes you out to The Doorway Gourmet today for a delicious pulled pork meal.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Marine Corp Combat War Veteran Gary “Chops” Polk of Freedom Valley Farms United and the folks at The Doorway Gourmet welcome you by for a delicious roasted pig meal today. That’s from 10am until 6pm in the parking lot of The Doorway Gourmet, on the four lane between JR’s Tires and Sonic.

For a $15 donation, you can enjoy a scrumptious pulled pork sandwich and all the trimmings. The trimmings include potato salad, baked beans along with macaroni and cheese. Then take your choice of dessert; strawberry or peach or blackberry cobbler.

The smoker roasted the pig all through the night into Thursday morning.

Chops began the process to today’s tasty offering around two o’clock on Wednesday afternoon. He then tended to the roasting overnight into Thursday morning getting ready for today’s big feeding.

Gary “Chops” Polk began the preparation process around 2pm Wednesday.

It’s the first Freedom Valley Farms United fundraiser of the year. “For this event, we’ve smoked a whole pig, a special pig imported from Spain. It’s an Iberico. That’s excellent meat, excellent quality,” said Polk. He adds that the meat is not cured, just seasoned, meaning less sodium making it healthier.

Your $15 donation, no tax, for today’s meal stays in Campbell County. “Half of the proceeds go toward The Doorway Gourmet and its non-profit ministry. The other half goes to our non-profit, Freedom Valley Farms United, to help feed the pigs, maintain equipment and general upkeep,” said Polk. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/11/2026-6AM)
