CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- A man lost his life as the result of an ATV accident that happened along the Campbell-Scott County line. North of Phillips Circle which intersects with Stoney Fork and Norma Roads was the scene of the accident, according to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The call of the accident, along the Campbell-Scott County line, came in to Central Dispatch at 6:24pm, Sunday.

Seventy-three year old Troy Hancock of Florida was behind the wheel of a 2023 Kawasaki KRF 1000, a side-by-side, when he lost control. The ATV then drove off the road to the left and down an embankment striking a standing tree. Hancock died at the scene while his passenger, a 55 year old female, suffered head trauma and was transported to a Knoxville hospital, based on the THP preliminary report.

Each person in the ATV was wearing a seat belt.

Responding agencies include Stoney Fork Volunteer Fire Department, La Follette Rescue Squad, TWRA, Scott EMS and Rescue Squad and Campbell Sheriff’s Office.
