It’s 1962 on this Throwback Thursday

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- On this Throwback Thursday, we turn the clock back to 1962. That’s when Betty Freeman, above, started as a meter reader for the Lafollette Police Department.

This image on North Tennessee Avenue, before the interstate opened, shows her along with  fellow Officer Henry Sutton. Officer Sutton accompanied Freeman as she began her new position with LPD. 

It was in April 1962 when this photo was snapped as Officer Sutton was dressed in his winter time Class A uniform.

There are several images of Lafollette officers dressed in this style when Austin Harmon and Roy Beever served as Lafollette Police Chief. No doubt, these guys were way ahead of ZZ Top and their song Sharp Dressed Man. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/11/2026-6AM)
