JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Insurance and Personnel committee approved a resolution on Tuesday afternoon regarding a new incentive for county commissioners to obtain continuing education.

The resolution is regarding an amendment to T.C.A.5-5-13 that was signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee in May for a new incentive for county commissioners, should their county choose to adopt by resolution.

According to Campbell County Insurance and Personnel Committee Chair Rusty Orick, the resolution provides the incentive for commissioners to get reimbursed by the county after completing eight hours each year of continuing education hours.

The training is done through the County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS) and must be documented by CTAS for reimbursement.

According to Orick, passing this incentive law is something the state has been working on for years.

“It’s been brought to our attention; most counties have already adopted it. It’s going across the state like wildfire, and they’re wanting everyone to get on board with it. We passed a resolution authorizing for this incentive to be paid once you’ve reached your eight hours of successful training per year. ” Orick said.

Once the training is completed and signed off on by CTAS, the county will reimburse up to $600 for continuing education costs.

“Starting several years ago, they wanted every commissioner to get this training, now they’re throwing incentives out to get this training, it’s a good thing. I expect all 95 counties will eventually pass this resolution,” Orick said.

The resolution will now go onto the county’s budget and finance committee and the full county commission for final approval. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/04/2024-6AM)
