Interstate was shutdown for the better part of four hours Wednesday night

JELLICO, TN (WLAF)- Disaster was averted on I-75 Wednesday night thanks to quick action by the Campbell County Emergency Management Agency. Just after 8pm, a wreck involving an 18-wheeler hauling fuel happened north of the Rarity Mountain Exit, about four miles south of Jellico.

The tanker truck remained upright while a crew cab truck pulling a trailer overturned creating a large debris field. There was a leak on the Duncan Oil Company big rig, and it was contained to about 20 gallons, according to Mark Nagi with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The tanker was offloaded on scene.

Callers to Central Dispatch said their wait time was anywhere from three to four hours.

One person was injured and transported by Campbell EMS to a Corbin hospital. Three cats and a bird were rescued by Campbell Animal Control and transported to the animal shelter.

It was a rather lengthy clean following Wednesday night’s wreck.

Reports coming in to Central Dispatch were that traffic was backed up for seven miles in both directions while the interstate was completely shutdown. Callers said their wait time was anywhere from three to four hours. All lanes of the interstate were back open by 1:30 Thursday morning.

Traffic was reported to be backed up for seven miles in each direction.
