LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- As Paul Harvey would say “and now the rest of the story”. This Throwback Thursday picture is from 1935 and shows Cecil Lane, the guy who won, in the wagon, and Lee Rigsby, who lost, making a stop at the Royal Lunch and Billiards.
They made a friendly wager on the Joe Louis – Max Baer fight, and the loser would pull the winner in a wagon to Cincinnati. On their way, they stopped at the Royal where the proprietor Howard Booth treated them to food and drink. While here, the boys picked up a few dollars and Rigsby left wearing a new pair of shoes an admiring sports fan gave him. A couple of days later, it was reported they were in London, Kentucky, going strong. And now you know the rest of the story. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/27/2025-6AM)
