CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (WLAF)- Educators make a difference in students’ lives every day. For many students, having a school employee who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher, or school employee who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hardworking educators with a weekly feature.

This week’s featured educator is Hanna Mayfield Nance. She is the Physical Education teacher at Wynn Habersham Elementary School.

Hannah Nance is Eagle Tire Pros Educator of the Week. She teaches Physical Education at Wynn-Habersham Elementary School. She is pictured with her two boys Noah and Abram.

Nance is from Speedwell and has “lived there her whole life.”

“I met my husband when we were in high school. We have been married 10 years now, and we have two beautiful boys named Noah (5) and Abram (4). I went to college at Lincoln Memorial University where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education,” Nance said.

She had several of her own educators that inspired her and endeavors to pass that inspiration onto her own students.

“When I think back to my time growing up, and on the influence of teachers and staff, the thing I remember the most is how they made me feel. Did they inspire me to be my best? Did they make me feel seen, valued, heard, loved, and important? My favorite teachers did, and in return those teachers are the ones I learned the best from,” Nance said.

However, her “biggest inspiration” to become an educator was her mother.

“When I was a little girl, I watched her diligently and ambitiously work her way through college. She did this while simultaneously being a constant in mine and my brother’s lives and never missed an important event. She graduated with her bachelor’s in teaching when I was in second grade, and from then on, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, too,” Nance said.

When Nance is not teaching, she loves to spend time with her family, especially in the outdoors.

“I come from a close family, and we love spending time together. I have two siblings (Jacob and Abbie), and they are both married. I love both of them dearly (spouses included), and their spouses have fit right into that sibling role perfectly. When I’m not working, I love all things adventure. I love kayaking, four wheeling, and jeeping, but most of all I love doing those things with my family,” Nance said.

Her students and where she works are some of the favorite parts of her job and why she strives to “make a difference” in her student’s lives.

“Wynn is a special school where the teachers and staff come together for the good of the students. We are a team, and we work as a team. The thing that I love most about my job is my students. I am a teacher, but most importantly I am a “coach” and a mentor. There is a saying on a wall at school that says, “Did I make a difference”, and that’s my goal every day. Just as my favorite teachers did for me, I want my students to walk away from an encounter with me knowing that I truly care about them, and I value what they have to say.”

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros. To nominate a teacher for teacher of the week honors, please send your nomination to wlaf@1450wlaf.com.
