LAFOLLETTE,TN. (WLAF)- Greeneview Farms Market is hosting a special event this weekend.
On Saturday, Bailey Ball (top photo) will have samples of the pork she has been raising. Ball, a state fair winner in the hog competition, is new to raising hogs. As she starts her second year of producing and showing hogs, she has already earned multiple awards for her work.
Greeneview Farms Market is partnering with Ball on Saturday to introduce the community to her product.
From 2pm until 4pm, Ball will be at the 294 Holstein Dr., LaFollette location to talk about her hogs, how she raises them as well sharing her experiences showing and selling them.
At 4pm, she and David Greene, of Greeneview Farms Market, will have samples of the pulled pork freshly smoked at the market. Greene purchased one of Bailey’s hogs to sell in the store. Sausage, pork chops and Tomaporks will be available for purchase.
Ball, 11, has gained statewide recognition for her hogs. The state fair winner was sold to the largest pork producer in Tennessee who then donated it to a food ministry. “He was very good,” Ball said. “He was one of my best pigs so far.”
An active member of 4-H Ball started showing the hogs at the suggestion of her 4-H extension officer, she said.
“I love it,” she said.
October is National Pork Month. “Porktober” seemed like an appropriate time to hold the promotion, Greene said.
