CARYVILLE, TN. (WLAF)- After allegedly brandishing not only a baseball bat but a gun, 77-year-old Ben Gibson is facing criminal charges.

Last week, Gibson was on Highway 116 when he and another motorist had a conflict. The two were headed north on the two lane road when Gibson slowed his car to 10mph, the report said. This prompted the other driver to honk his horn at Gibson. In return for that action, Gibson allegedly waved a gun out the window of his car and “took off at a high rate of speed,” the report said. However, that wasn’t the end of the conflict. As the two vehicles approached Little Cove Creek Rd., Gibson allegedly stopped in the middle of the road. This time a baseball bat was brandished.

The other driver had been on the phone with 911 throughout the incident. As the two men left Hwy. 116 turning right onto Veteran’s Memorial Hwy. they were stopped by police.

Gibson was patted down and placed in the back of a patrol car. Nothing was found in the pat down, according to the report. However, he did allegedly tell police a small gun was in the passenger’s seat of his car. A 9mm pistol in a box was in the back passenger side of the vehicle, the report said. The other driver told police the 9mm “did look like the firearm” Gibson had waved out the window of his vehicle.

At the jail, Gibson was searched with authorities discovering a Kel Tek handgun magazine for .380 handgun, the report said. A matching gun wasn’t found.

Gibson, 77, refused to give police his street address. It was noted that he resides in Jacksboro. He is charged with aggravated assault involving the use or display of a deadly weapon.
