Deliveries made to Cosby, Newport, Greeneville, Jonesborough and Erwin, so far

On Wednesday morning, La Follette Church of God Pastor Michael Dent and his daughter, Susan Shields load the truck that’s bound for Jonesborough and Erwin.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The Flood Relief Emergency Appeal began Sunday morning, and by Monday morning Michael Dent and others were heading to Cocke County with a truck full of supplies for flood victims. Dent is the pastor at the La Follette Church of God, and Sunday, at the church, the idea came about. “This is a non-denominational effort, and we’ve had pastors and members from other churches step in to help out. The community, the businesses have been tremendous, too,” said the personable Dent.

Tables and tables of food will soon be delivered to folks in need.

Donations began coming in on Sunday, and the giving hasn’t stopped. “Water still tops the list as the biggest need,” said Dent. Water’s been delivered by the pallet the donations have been so unreal, added the pastor.

Pam Olivio pushes another cart load to the loading area.

Dent’s been using his crew cab truck and the church van making the runs that began Monday. “You’re just not able to get big rigs and large vehicles in and out of the flood damaged area is why we’re using a pick up and a van,” said Dent.

Supplies are coming in and going out to flood victims in Upper East Tennessee.

“Monday, it was Cosby and Newport. Then we made it to Greeneville Tuesday, and yesterday, we were at Jonesborough and Erwin,” said Dent. The truck and the van are loaded in the evening, and they head out early the next morning, according to Dent.

The gym/family life center is serving as the drive’s makeshift warehouse. If you would like to donate, please call Pam Olivio at the La Follette Church of God office 423.562.3500. “We’ll accommodate a time that works for you on delivering your donation,” said Olivio.
