LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)– It sounds like a swarm of bees, but it’s not. The latest swarm of bees sound was Saturday morning during the first bed build of the season for Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Weather was friendly for the weekend bed build.

“In a nutshell, Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an organization that builds beds for kids who don’t have a bed,” said Bill Thompson, president of the local chapter of SHP.

The beds built are twin size beds that can be bunked. “The demand here is tremendous,” said Thompson. As of Saturday, 21 beds are needed here in Campbell County, there are 142 youngsters on the waiting list in surrounding counties, according to Thompson.

Upwards of 60 volunteers came out for Saturday’s SHP bed build.

Volunteers from several organizations came out to help. State Farm Agent Linda Kilgore, the Lions Club, Hope + Stand Church and Y-12 Federal Credit Union were represented.

The first bed build of the year for Sleep in Heavenly Peace was most successful. The event was held in the Y-12 Credit Union parking lot on Saturday morning. “We had 60 volunteers sign up, and we built 40 beds,” said Thompson.

Young and older alike helped out.
