Hubert Edward Harmon, Jr., known to family and friends as Eddie, passed away suddenly at home on June 22nd, 2026 at age 65.
Eddie was born December 29th, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois to Hubert and Betty Harmon. He grew up in Highland, Indiana before he and his family moved to Clinton, Tennessee in 1970. Eddie attended Medford School, where he played basketball, before going on to attend Lake City High School. In high school, Eddie took a wood shop class, where he discovered a love of woodworking. Many shelves and pieces of furniture he made for family and friends are still in use to this day.
Eddie was an avid NASCAR fan and frequently attended races with his brother, Richard. He was also a UT football fan and never missed a game. Eddie loved to cook and grill, and especially enjoyed making meals and treats for his family. In his younger days, Eddie enjoyed taking his boat out on Norris Lake whenever he could. He enjoyed listening to music, especially classic rock and country music.
Eddie never met a stranger and was kind to everyone he met. He made jokes and liked to cut up with everyone, and he always had a way of making people feel at ease with laughter.
Throughout his life, Eddie was devoted to his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Wilma, in 1980, and they shared nearly 46 years together. Eddie worked hard to provide for his loved ones and was a loving and supportive husband and father. He coached his kids’ sports teams, volunteered as a Cub Scouts pack leader, and took his children to music lessons and events of all kinds, all just to be part of their lives. He was a proud Papaw to his “pretty girl” Ella and never missed a chance to play with her.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Wilma; his daughter, Laura and her husband Adam; his son, Matthew; his granddaughter, Ella; his parents, Hubert and Betty; his sister, Angelia and her husband Roger; his brother, Richard and his wife Shawna; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation for Eddie’s family and friends will be held at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Rocky Top on Thursday, June 25th at 5:00PM, with funeral service to follow at 7:00PM with Pastor Alex Stephens officiating. Burial will take place on Friday, June 26th at 11:00AM at Clinch River Baptist Church cemetery.
