Jacksboro 28 Horace Maynard 14

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It was perfect football weather on Thursday night as Jacksboro welcomed Horace Maynard. The Eagles entered following a loss to Oneida and without star player Jack Sexton.

How would Jacksboro bounce back? And who would fill Sexton’s role? It was a four part answer on Thursday. Max Stanfill, Easton Ayers, and Kai Depuy rotated at the left wing position. On defense, Tanner Johnson played safety.

Head Coach Cody Parker was very pleased and proud of the Eagles who stepped up to fill the big shoes of Sexton.

For Jacksboro, it was a physical football game to say the least. Avander Demott had one 50 yard touchdown dash, but other than that, it was Thomas Wilson, and all the aforementioned players churning their feet for 5-6 yard gains.

Jacksboro’s outstanding o-line play really paved the way for the Eagle victory, outmatching Maynardville’s defensive front.

However, Horace Maynard never gave up and actually scored the first six points of the game. After a touchdown run from Easton Ayers, two from Demott and one from Thomas Wilson, Jacksboro led 28-6, and never let the game slip away. HMMS fought at the end and brought the score to 28-14.

The Eagles finish the regular season with a 6 and 2 record, 2 and 0 in district play.

Up next for Jacksboro is a first round bye in the playoffs. For the second round, on October 24th, Jacksboro will host the winner of Horace Maynard and La Follette in a win or go home matchup.

Coach Parker said that he told his team that “everything you wanted at the beginning of the season is still in front of you. Just go out and get it.”
