JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Educators make a difference in students’ lives every day. For many students, having a school employee who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher, or school employee who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hardworking educators with a weekly feature.

 Dewayne Wells is Eagle Tire Pros Educator of the Week. He teaches Business classes at Campbell County High School.

Wells is a 1978 Graduate of Campbell County High School. He attended Carson Newman University where he played football and earned a B.S. In Business. Wells also attended the University of the Cumberlands and earned a M.S. Degree.

Wells shared a little about himself and that he was a football coach in college for 17 years and 16 years in High School. 

He has taught at Campbell County High School for a total of 13 years with 10 years as head football coach. His wife Beverly is a retired Kindergarten teacher.

PUBLISHER’S NOTE: Coach Wells was the first coach to lead Campbell County football to a winning season and first playoff appearance. The Cougars finished 7 & 4 in 2004. Wells also coached CCHS to its only two wins over the power house Johnson City Science Hill Hilltoppers.

Educator of the Week Dewayne Wells shared a letter written to him by one of his mentors Mr. Jerry Dagley during his senior season at Carson Newman. 

Wells said he had several educators who inspired him when he was in school and at college.

“Mr. Jerry Dagley provided much encouragement as a student at CCHS, even kept in touch with me throughout my career as a coach.  My college Coach Ken Sparks inspired me into teaching and coaching and had a tremendous influence in my life,” Wells said.

“My favorite part of the job is seeing students being successful in life and careers,” Wells said.
