Town of Caryville Planning Commission is moving forward

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Town of Caryville Planning Commission is moving forward with a zoning ordinance about data centers.

Yesterday afternoon, the planning commission met and discussed the ordinance defining data centers. The ordinance defines a data center as secure, physical facility or dedicated space used to house, power, and cool large amounts of computer systems, servers, and networking equipment. It acts as a centralized high-tech storage and processing hub for an organization’s digital data, applications, and internet infrastructure.

The next ordinance discussed was where the data centers could be placed. The centers would be allowed in M-1 zones which are a planned industrial park district.

The ordinances were approved by the planning commission and will now be sent to the board of mayor and aldermen for final approval. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/08/2026-6AM)
