JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Campbell County Mayor Jack Lynch announced at Monday’s county commission workshop that commissioners will recognize nun Marie Cirrillo, who passed away at the age of 94 on July 4 of this year.
Cirillo, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1929, joined the Glenmary Sisters and was sent to work in rural Appalachia.
Cirillo worked for years with the citizens of Clairfield, after she moved to the area in 1967. She lived and spent the rest of her life in the mountains helping the community build legacies such as the Clairfield Community Health Clinic, Model Valley Economic Development Corporation, Woodland Community Land Trust, Clearfork Utility District and Clearfork Institute.
Cirillo’s work was recognized on a world level.
“She was a big help to the folks of Clairfield, and we would like to dedicate a piece of Roses Creek Road in her memory. We’re not changing anyone’s address, or doing any harm, it’s just recognition for her,” Lynch said.
In other business, Lynch said that the commission would also be recognizing Campbell County Centenarian “Cat McCullah” who will be 100 years old on Aug. 18.
“We just want to do something to honor and recognize these folks,” Lynch said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/14/2024-6AM)
