Campbell’s 17 win season the most wins in eight seasons
By Clayton Carroll
KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF)- It was a tough end to a successful season for the Orange-and-Blue. Ernie Mac Clawson’s Cougars finished with 17 wins, their most since the Clawsons have walked the sidelines at Campbell High. Campbell’s Cougars also made it to a region tournament game for the first time since 2021-2022. However, they ran into a buzz saw in the form of the Bearden Bulldogs, potential state title contenders.
Bearden blitzed the Cougars 85-37, ending Campbell County’s season.
Gavin Cox, your Mills Door and More Player of the Game, scored 13 points. Luke Browning contributed nine points. Gavin Owens racked up seven points. Will Croley totaled four points. Jake Hatmaker and Keegan Nelson both totaled two points apiece.
The Cougars find themselves in a familiar position as the Lady Cougars when it comes to departing seniors. The Cougars lose five seniors, Gavin Cox, Gavin Owens, Brady Hatmaker, Luke Browning, and Keegan Nelson.
The veterans for the Campbell squad will be juniors Will Croley and Jake Hatmaker. These two will be the go-to players for the Orange-and-Blue. Also expected to see more of the court are young Cougars Braydon Graham and Caden Heatherly. Sam Sexton, who will also be a junior, should play a pivotal piece for Campbell’s basketball team next season. Basketball may be over for the 2024-2025 season, but it was quite an exciting year for Campbell Basketball.
