KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Cougars traveled to Halls on Wednesday night for a pivotal district matchup. With a CCHS win, Campbell would earn the three seed in the district tournament. With a Halls win, the Red Devils would finish in second place.

It was a back-and-forth battle, one that leaned the Cougars way. Campbell went up by as many as 15 points in the second half. Then Halls made a run.

The Red Devils cut the lead down to as few as three points. However, Jake Hatmaker sunk a huge free throw near the end of the game to put the Cougars ahead by four, which is where the final margin stood. Campbell clinched the three seed with a 68-64 win.

Four Cougars scored more than 10 points on Wednesday. Luke Browning led the winning effort with 19 points. Jake Hatmaker had one of his best nights of the season scoring 17 points. Gavin Owens finished with fourteen points. Will Croley scored 13, and Gavin Cox rounded out the score book with five points.

Campbell, with the win, finishes third in the district, meaning it will play the 6th seed Karns in round 1 of the district tournament at Karns. That first round game will be played Wed., Feb. 19, at 7:30pm.

Up next, Campbell travels to Morristown on Friday. The Cougars and Trojans of West tip off at 7:30 with coverage beginning at 5:45pm with the Lady Cougars game over the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Sports Network which consists of radio AM 1450, FM 100.9, WLAF-TV Channel 1089, 1450wlaf.com, Alexa on your Amazon enabled devices, Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.
