Campbell never trailed enroute to its 5-A non-region road victory on Saturday

And 72 yards later, Campbell’s Gavin Owens found the end zone just seconds into the fourth quarter. Number 58 Josh Ramsey (right) trails the play. It was a block by Ramsey and Timmy Gibson that sprang Owens on the left edge of the line.

GRAY, TN (WLAF)- Originally scheduled for Friday night, your Cougars made a 130 mile trip just north of Johnson City to Daniel Boone High School to take on the Trailblazers at noon on Saturday.
WATCH Campbell’s win HERE on demand.
Would Campbell be sluggish from the early trip? Would it take a while for the Cougars to get going? Not at all. The defense forced a quick turnover on downs for the Blazers; then the Cougars’ offense went to work.
The Orange-and-Blue’s first drive consisted of long runs from Gavin Owens, Keegan Cowan, and Timmy Gibson. Cowan capped off the long drive with a 10 yard touchdown scamper. Rylan Sanders made his first of four point after touchdown tries.
The storyline of the afternoon for the Cougar defense was bend but don’t break. Campbell held Boone scoreless in the first half. This was thanks to great secondary play from Luke Lindsay, Caden Idles, Blake Albright, and freshman Jordan Perkins.
Up front, Campbell’s offense and defensive line was bigger, tougher, and stronger than Boone’s. In the trenches for the Orange-and-Blue was Dorian Cable, Josh Ramsay, Aiden Evans, Robert Kirby, and center Jake Lawson.
The defensive line was led in large part by Jase Cloyd who made several solid tackles.
Another defensive bright spot for the Cougar D was a “Hit Heard ‘round Washington County.” Timmy Gibson leveled a Trailblazer, knocking off his helmet, forcing an incomplete pass.
On offense, Campbell County looked very balanced. Cowan, Owens, and Gibson all had touchdown runs, Cowan having two; and Owens’s tallying on a 72 yard dash.
Also, Luke Lindsay, CC’s quarterback, connected with Gavin Owens in double coverage putting the Orange-and-Blue in prime field position.
However, the Blazers fought, making it a one possession game with 30 seconds to go in the contest.
Fortunately for Campbell, young gun Max Boshears dove on top of the Boone onside kick, sealing the game for the Cougars.
Campbell County advances to 2 and 4 on the season after the 28-21 win. Boone falls to 0 and 6.
Cougar Head Coach Mark Pemberton was very pleased with his team, especially his defense for the majority of the game and the stellar play of the O-Line.
Up next for Campbell is a trip to Corryton to face Gibbs.
