JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Commissioners approved a resolution on Monday evening that requests the county’s insurance company to notify the county of “pertinent legal matters in a timely manner.”
Commission Zach Marlow brought the resolution requesting “timely transmittal of information of pertinent legal matters to the county commission” at last week’s county commission workshop. According to Marlow, “it was unacceptable” that the county was not informed of the trial’s start regarding the lawsuit and $6 million dollar judgement to plaintiff Nathan Ling.
At last month’s meeting, Commissioners approved a budget amendment for over $4 million to pay the judgment.
This resolution came out of the county’s rules and ethics committee and was reviewed by County Attorney Joe Coker.
At last week’s commission workshop, Marlow told fellow commissioners that he had heard about the trial starting on the news that night and that he thought that the county’s insurance company should have notified the county.
The resolution request is being sent to the Tennessee Local Government Insurance Pool.
Also approved on the recommendation of the rules and ethics committee was for the county commissioner’s new administrative assistant to have access to the Federal Court’s PACER online system, so that way the commission can monitor the court docket if they “need to.
