JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- In honor of February being recognized as Career and Technical Education Month, county commissioners recognized area CTE programs at Campbell County and Jellico High Schools at Monday’s commission workshop. These programs are teaching the “skills for life” and getting students “work-force ready” and “placement in high paying jobs.”
Both schools have numerous CTE programs, some of which include “Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Welding, Auto-mechanics, Agriculture, Health Science, STEM and “many more.”
“Campbell County schools have this great program for getting students ready for work…there’s a big push on education in the workplace,” said County Mayor Jack Lynch before reading the proclamation.
Campbell County CTE Director Traci Chambers was present to receive the proclamation plaque. Chambers went over some of the great things going on in the school’s CTE department.
“We have a renovation going on at Jellico in Construction and Welding, we’re getting ready to add HVAC at Campbell County High School. We did add another agriculture program of study this year. FFA has over 300 students in it, they’re doing great things. We have a great group of teachers, we have great career coaches at both schools,” Chambers said. She also said the CTE department was doing a lot of “hands on and career exploration with eighth grade students at the middle schools.”
The district is also offering new classes with dual enrollment at TCAT this semester.
“We have a lot of great things going on in CTE and we appreciate your support,” Chambers said.
Mayor Jack Lynch said he “felt good about Campbell County in the educational realm.”
Last week, the CTE departments were also recognized by the Campbell County Board of Education. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-02/25/2025-6AM)
