The suspect, shot multiple times, was airlifted and is now housed in the Anderson County Jail

ANDERSON COUNTY, TN. (WLAF)- A Helenwood man, Dylan Phillips, (in top photo) has been arrested and charged for the crimes he allegedly committed on I-75 the day after Christmas.

Earlier Thursday, Seventh Judicial District Attorney General Dave Clark released the following statement:

On the evening of December 26, 2024, the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office initiated a vehicle pursuit after determining the Defendant was armed. During the pursuit, officers from other agencies joined to assist and the pursuit progressed on 1-75 Southbound. The pursuit crossed into Anderson County and was joined by an Anderson County Deputy Sheriff.

The Defendant, Dylan Phillips, age 27, pulled over on the I-75 Southbound lanes near mile marker 127 and pointed a weapon at law enforcement, and at that time, shots were fired by law enforcement. The Defendant entered his vehicle while refusing commands and continued to flee Southbound on I-75. Approximately one mile later, he was forced off the roadway by an Anderson County Deputy and placed under arrest. During the arrest, the Defendant resisted by using physical force against the officers. The Defendant during physical resistance is charged with assaulting an Anderson County Deputy by kicking them. The Defendant was eventually secured and transported to an area hospital via Life Star.

The Defendant also has multiple charges for Aggravated Assault for using his fiream1 against officers at the scene. The suspect was struck multiple times by bullets fired by officers. He has received medical treatment and hospitalization. Upon discharge from the hospital, he was placed under arrest and transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility where he was booked and processed. His bond was set at $850,000 and it is anticipated that his Arraignment will occur on January 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Additional charges will also be expected in Campbell County.

District Attorney General Clark commented, “I am grateful that officers were not injured, and the Defendant is recovering. We will not have further comment on the new criminal charges. The investigation into the Officer Involved Shooting continues and will likely take several months to complete.”

Because this incident included an officer involved shooting, in consultation with Anderson County Sheriff Barker, the District Attorney General asked the TBI to conduct the primary investigation into the shooting. TBI agents and General Clark responded to the scene.

“This was a difficult scene given that 1-75 was shut down and there were two different scenes on 1-75. General Clark is grateful to TB[ and the Tennessee Highway Patrol for their robust and quick response as well as all the first responders and departments involved in managing a difficult situation.”

Any charges against the Defendant will be investigated and charged by local agencies.

Upon completion of the Officer Involved Shooting Investigation a comprehensive report of the investigation and findings by the District Attorney General will be publicly released.
