On the agenda, was a subdivision plat approval at 271 John McGhee Blvd., C-2 Zone. This was requested by Charles and Belinda Daugherty. The Daugherty’s wanted to separate one lot into two lots. The commission approved the split.
Next was a site plan approval for the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial at the Caryville Cares Playground. This item was removed from the agenda due to needing the owner’s consent on the plan.
The final item on the agenda was the election of officers. This is done yearly in July. The commission appointed Janet Lawson as chairman, Ron Phillips as vice-chairman and Cindy Smith as secretary.
As the meeting ended, Mayor Beth Lawson told the commission she would like to see the city have an ordinance about how long political signs can be left up after the election is over. Lawson expressed concern about TDOT being unable to mow the right of ways due to political signs. She continued that she had voiced her concerns to TDOT about the right of ways not being mowed. Community Planner Harold Edwards said he felt that 10 days after the election was sufficient time for the signs to be removed. No action was taken on this item. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-07/10/2026-6AM)
