LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Campbell United, Campbell County’s anti-drug coalition, met on Thursday at Roane State Community College, planning upcoming community-oriented events, including a Drug Take Back Day, as well as another Community Resource Fair.

Campbell United Director Charlsa Honeycutt led the meeting, asking community participants how they felt about participating in another Drug Take Back Day, which is a national outreach effort by the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Campbell United participated last year with an event at Woodson’s Mall and netted nearly 80 pounds of unwanted prescription medications, keeping them out the hands of kids and out of the landfills and the water system.

“Participating in these types of events is not only good for the community, but good for our coalition as well in getting grants because the state loves when we partner and participate in these kinds of efforts,” said coalition co-organizer Trent Coffey.

The consensus was to once again participate in the event, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, this year. Campbell United plans to expand and have multiple locations for this year’s event and will have a drop-off location at each end of the county, as well as one in Jellico. The final details will be announced at the next meeting.

Plans are also in the works to hold another Community Resource Fair, perhaps again at the LaFollette Church of God, but the date and location have not yet been determined.

Last year’s resource fair was a success with over 40 community organizations participating in providing information about resources available in the county. The resource fair was also partnered with a diaper and wipe drive for the Campbell County Children’s Center, something that they may do again this year, as well as a hygiene item drive for some individuals in drug recovery programs. The resource fair would take place sometime between late May and late June. More details will be announced as plans solidify.
