The CCSO has 14 fulltime POST certified School Resource Officers (SROs)

JACKSBORO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO) Division recently completed its annual firearm training and qualification at the county shooting range off Towe String Road.

This comprehensive training is required under the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) commission standards, involved proficiency testing with department-issued firearms, including handguns, patrol rifles, and shotguns.

Last Wednesday was a busy day at the shooting range.

While this qualification is mandated annually, deputies of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office undergo firearms training multiple times throughout the year. The latest training session included static line shooting, moving and shooting, stress courses, and accuracy drills, designed to ensure officers maintain the highest level of readiness.

Therigorous preparation equips SROs to to act swiftly and decisively in the event of any emergency.

The importance of this training is paramount, particularly for the SRO division, which serves as the first line of defense within our county’s school system. SRO deputies are specifically trained to respond to and neutralize potential threats, ensuring the safety of students and staff.
