LPD traffic stop of a speeding driver nets an arrest

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- LaFollette Police Officer Dillon Marney was patrolling eastbound on Wed., Jan. 22, around 5pm, on Jacksboro Pike when he saw a 2004 white Ford Ranger traveling westbound on Jacksboro Pike going 62 mph in a 40 mph.

Marney stopped the vehicle at 2212 Jacksboro Pike right across the four lane from Woodon’s Mall.

The officer spoke with the driver identified as Samuel McCullah who advised Marney that he had a gun permit, according to a report from the LaFollette Police Department. Marney asked McCullah if there were any firearms in the vehicle, and he replied yes and pointed in the direction where the gun was located. Officer Marney asked McCullah if he could take the firearm for the remainder of the traffic stop for his safety and McCullah replied yes. Marney checked the serial number on the Black Springfield XD-9 handgun with dispatch who advised that the handgun was stolen out of Knox County in 2009.

McCullah, 43, 175 Woodridge Pike, Newcomb, was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and 62/40. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-01/30/2025-6AM)
