LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Tuesday was a good day for the Campbell County Children’s Center as it received a $50,000 check from the state of Tennessee. State Representative Dennis Powers presented the check to Children’s Center CEO Tracie Davis and the center’s board of directors.
The $50,000 in funds for the Children’s Center came from a Tennessee State budget amendment out of the general budget, according to Powers, who spoke briefly after presenting the check.
“We have an appropriations committee that you can file, this is not a grant or a loan, it’s called a budget amendment, we have an appropriations committee, you have to go before them and present your case, how much you want, why you want it, what the organization you are applying for actually does and how it benefits the city or county that it serves. We know what the Children’s Center does, which is God’s work in our area, serving three counties. They take kids at their most vulnerable time and take care of them, and this is to thank you and say we appreciate everything you do,” Powers said. He also congratulated Davis on her 30th anniversary with the Campbell County Children’s Center.
Davis spoke briefly, thanking Powers for being “instrumental in securing these funds for the Children’s Center.”
“We would not have even known this was available, and so we are so appreciative,” Davis said.
She also explained that the funds came at an ideal time to replace funding from a grant that the center was no longer eligible to apply for.
“We no longer get our CAP contract, not because of anything that we have done wrong, but we met the expectations on our numbers and as a result of that we met our tipping point and so were no longer eligible to apply and that grant was for $50,000 so this is a timely donation for us and will help us continue the work that we are doing,” Davis said.
The Campbell County Children’s Center (CCCC) is a child advocacy center, 501C3 not-for-profit organization that was founded in 2001 to provide a safe haven for sexually and physically abused children. The CCCC serves children in Campbell, Claiborne and Union Counties. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/17/2026-6AM)
