JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF0- The Campbell County Board of Education met on Thursday afternoon, approving a change to the athletic interview committee which is now to consist of the school athletic director, principal and director of schools.

Also approved was the re-alignment of girls’ and boys’ basketball supplement at Elk Valley Elementary and Wynn Elementary Schools to be in alignment with all middle schools.

These two schools received $2,000 less that other schools, this change brings them into line with other schools.

Board member Randy Heatherly said he felt that all the coaching stipends were too low and that during this budget season, they should be looked at and increased. Other board members agreed, with Johnson reporting that he had been looking at different ways other schools compensate their coaches

“I think our compensation system is flawed … Every coach should be compensated,” Johnson said.

Right now, Elementary cheer coaches are not compensated.

Board Attorney Dail Cantrell told the BOE to “make sure they are in title 9 compliance. Make sure you have two coaches, one for boys and one for girls and your two high schools need to pay the same, your two middle schools need to pay the same,” Cantrell said.

Johnson said he would bring a proposal to the board and that Athletic director Olivia Lobertini had brought the issue to his attention.

In other business, BOE members reviewed and approved a bid for the resurfacing of the Gym floor at Caryville Elementary School.

Several items were also declared as surplus including a 2010 Bluebird Passenger Bus, a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van as well as surplus solar panels.

It was approved for the school district to advertise bids for the E-rate mini-bid for Access Point Renewal Licenses.

Also, on Thursday’s agenda was to accept the renewal of several contracts between the school district and various businesses and organizations. Contract renewals included Campbell County Fire Equipment, Gold Creek Commodity, Cook’s Pest Control, Cox’s Septic Service, Mayfield Milk, Institutional Wholesale Company/US Foods and Ice Cream Warehouse.
