Near the corner of East Beech Street and South Tennessee Avenue

Technicians with the Knox County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad arrived within minutes.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- UPDATE: La Follette Chief of Police Matt Forsyth has just informed WLAF (1:15pm) that technicians with the Knox County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad determined that a grenade brought to the LPD early Friday afternoon is non-active. Knox County packed up the grenade and left town with it, and Beech Street was reopened. A gentleman discovered the grenade while cleaning out a garage earlier today.

“We’re using extreme caution and have closed a small section of Beech Street right here behind the bay doors at the fire department,” said La Follette Chief of Police Matt Forsyth.

The chief explains that a man was cleaning out a garage and found a grenade and brought it to the police department. The street was shutdown just around 12:10pm.

The grenade that was discovered was non-active.

“The Knoxville Bomb Squad is on its way to La Follette to take care of this situation. Once they take care of the grenade, we’ll reopen this portion of Beech Street,” said Forsyth. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/16/2025-12:15PM)
