MEMPHIS, TN (WLAF) – Two years ago, Campbell County was recognized statewide for its continued development of Lonas Young Park. Last week, the county was awarded again. This time it was the success story of the garbage compactor initiative that generated attention from the Tennessee County Services Association.
Bears getting into dumpsters at White Oak prompted Campbell County Commissioners to come up with a solution. It ended up being the investment into garbage compacters. “The new compactors, soon to be in place, will save our county money, time and wear and tear on equipment. It’ll also keep out the bears,” said Commissioner Rusty Orick.
Orick goes on to say that Commissioner Ralph Davis donated his time along securing help from a couple of sanitation employees to pour the concrete pads that will support the 40-yard containers. The new containers will compact up to 14-tons of garbage.
The award was presented last week at the Peabody Hotel at Memphis at the 67th Annual Tennessee County Services Association Fall Conference & Trade Show. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/08/2021-6AM)
