County Trustee Monty Bullock speaks at Rotary

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Campbell County Trustee Monty Bullock (TOP PHOTO) guest spoke at the Rotary Club’s Tuesday luncheon held at the LaFollette Methodist Church.

Bullock is a “longstanding elected official in the county” having served Campbell County for 37 years.

His office “serves as the bank for the county” with all money from the state and from property taxes going through his office.

Bullock spoke about how times have changed over the past nearly four decades of him being in office.

“We didn’t have wire transfers, retirement accounts and more back when I first started; it’s a lot different,” Bullock said.

This year’s tax base will be about $18.5 million, according to Bullock.  He said when he came into office 37 years ago, the tax base for the county was about $6 million.

All property tax money comes through the trustee’s office. His office also handles investments for the county. When property tax funds “come in is when he starts investing for the county,” Bullock said.

He also explained that the trustee’s offices has no part in the decision on property value, “We just collect the money,” Bullock said.

His office also handles the BEP money that comes in from the state for the school systems, handling over $4 million dollars a month.

He said the trustees “take care of the county’s money.”

Around $90 million dollars goes through his office every year.

The trustee’s office gets audited two times a year by the state comptroller’s office.

“In 36 years, there has never been a finding on my office,” Bullock said.

He went over some of the programs that his office offers for senior citizens.

“In the month of October, we offer a 2 percent discount and in November a 1 percent discount for seniors on property taxes.” His office also offers a property tax rate freeze for qualifying seniors 65 and older. Qualifications are based on income.

His office also offers a partial payment plan so payments can be made in installments. There is also a discount offered to Veterans, along with more programs to help the citizens.

“We have some good programs for people, we’re out to help you and accommodate the citizens,” Bullock said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/02/2026-6AM)
