James Thomas, age 82, of Jacksboro passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026. He was very civic minded and was a Veteran of the US Army and a past member of the Auxiliary Police, LaFollette Rescue Squad, Fire Department (volunteer or city) and an EMT with the Campbell County Ambulance Service for many years. He never met a stranger and had very good friends here in Campbell County. He loved his family and church family and was also a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church. And one of his famous quotes to everyone was “I love you-God loves you and there’s nothing you can do about it”.

Preceded in death by parents: Howard and Gladys Thomas, sisters: Vivian Marlow, Elenora Webb, Edna Mohler.

Children: Sabrina Thomas, Greg Thomas, 

Stepchildren: Joy Cowan and husband John, Crystal Crabtree Morris and husband Jeremy, Drew Crabtree and wife Vanessa

Sisters: Janice Allen, Patty Goins

Brother: Howard Thomas

Sister and brother-in-laws: Rita and Perry Teplisky, Machelle and Chuck Ensey, Mike Dove

Step-grandchildren: Gates, Cable, Aleeyah, Amber, Jillian, and Kurstin

Step-great-grandchildren: Easton, Blake, and Levi

Special adoptive children: Kyden, Eva and Blake

The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church with funeral service at 7 PM,  Rev. Mike Foust officiating.
