TOP IMAGE: Scattered showers and storms are expected Friday in NE TN, SW VA and the East TN mountains. Elsewhere, like here in Campbell County, showers and storms will be more isolated. Drier, more comfortable late August weather will settle in for the weekend.

Lookin’ out my back door at WLAF, tropical-like rain at 4am Friday.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Having rain gear along for Friday’s Campbell Cougars home and season football opener is not a bad idea. Early evening showers and storms will pick their spots to pop up, and there’s a good chance the Cougars game could even go rain-free. It’ll be muggy and 75-degrees at the 7pm kick-off of Campbell hosting Lenoir City.

Mostly sunny, muggy and 83 for Friday. It’ll be mainly rain-free Saturday and Sunday with Sunday being a most pleasant day.

A little before 4am Friday, the sky opened, and rain, for a few minutes, came down in tropical-like fashion here on North 5th Street at the WLAF studios. Then the rain quit like a valve had been closed. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/21/2026-6AM-TEXT & IMAGE COURTESY OF NWS MORRISTOWN)
