CCSO, CPD, LaF. Rescue Squad, Campbell EMS rescue six people

PIONEER, TN (WLAF)- Six people, two from Campbell County, were rescued hours before sun up on Sunday. “We got the call about 3am that some folks were lost while riding ATVs off Flatwoods Road,” said Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Clinton Hutchinson.

An early morning thunderstorm is blamed for six ATV riders straying from a marked path in the vicinity of Trails 1 and 4 in the Sundquist Wildlife Management area.

Hutchinson, along with CCSO Sergeant Jesse Ferguson and Caryville Police Officer Tyler Pearson, teamed with Dylan Thompson with the La Follette Rescue Squad to reach the victims. Thompson transported officers on a side-by-side onto the unmarked trail and located the six missing riders.

“The storm had passed by the time we made it to Exit 141 of I-75. However, it didn’t keep us from getting stuck and then unstuck as we began our search,” said Hutchinson.

One of the missing riders suffered a minor leg injury from an ATV rollover accident. All six riders were safely escorted back to the intersection of Trails 1 and 4 where Campbell EMS medical technicians were standing by to render aid.
