Mildred “Grace” McMahan Ohmstede of Maryville, TN passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the age of 89.

Grace was born on June 6, 1937 in Briceville, TN. She was happily married to Ray Ohmstede for 60+ years. He was the love of her life. Grace was raised in Briceville, the sixth of seven brothers and sisters, and the youngest daughter of the Leonard and Cora McMahan family. Surrounded by her older brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews, Grace learned the value of family very early. She carried that with her into adulthood where she was beloved by all and considered a “second mom” to many.

Being a military wife, Grace was devoted to Ray and their four children and moved households five times before Ray retired from the Navy. While Ray was at sea, Grace was the heart and soul of the family, and remained so for the rest of her life.

There’s nothing Grace loved more than spending time with her kids and grandkids, sharing a hot cup of coffee and a bologna sandwich with them. She also loved playing with her grandbabies and great grandbabies. Grace loved to laugh and cut up with everyone. She always said, “no fool is no fun!”

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, Leonard and Cora McMahan, brothers Sam, Carl, and Bill McMahan, and sisters Pearl (Schultz), Marie (Lindsay), and Lucille (Housley). Grace is survived by sons Michael (Renae) and Tony, daughters Lee Ann Silver and Kimberly (Anson) Chilcutt, grandchildren Michael Jr. (Agustina), Drew (Kaylen), Tyler (Naomi), Jordan (Lou), Megan (Conner), Ron Jr., Ethan, and Clay, and great grandchildren Natalee, Baylee, Marlee, Everlee, Sawyer, Charlotte, Elena, Cora, Peyton, T. J., and Grace Elizabeth and many other nieces and nephews.

Grace will always be remembered by the sheer number of people she touched with her kindness and love.

Receiving of friends will be held Friday, July 31, 2026 from 5-7pm, with the funeral service to follow at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Rocky Top, TN. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.
