LUB audit to cost $12,500, see official request here

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- On Tuesday afternoon, the LaFollette City Council and the LaFollette Utility Board met for a joint workshop at City Hall. There were three items on the agenda. The item that took up the bulk of the meeting was a special audit for the LaFollette Utility Board.

Councilman Mark Hoskins explained the reason for the audit is “to give the new general manager a level playing field”. The City of LaFollette will pay 50% of the cost while LaFollette Utilities Board will pay 50% of the cost. However, there is a twist in paying for the audit, if the audit reveals any intentional wrongdoing by the utilities department, they will pay the full cost of the audit which is $12,500.

Next was an update from the LaFollette Utility Board on utility cuts, fire hydrants, leaking water valves, overgrown vegetation on power poles, sewer and water risers, and status on sewer plant. The council was told that the utilities department has a company who can do the paving repairs. The council discussed how repairs on streets needed to meet TDOT specs. After a brief discussion of the progress on the issues, incoming General Manager Dave Cross stated that moving forward the utilities department would provide a schedule of repairs for the council.

The final item discussed was the workshop and meeting dates for the LaFollette Utility Board. The council would like the utilities department to look at changing the date of its workshop so city council members could attend as needed. The board is going to look into the request and see what they can do to adjust the dates. LUB generally holds its workshop and meeting each month on the same day, the last Monday of the month, at the same time the city conducts its monthly workshop. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-07/22/2026-6AM)
