LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The LaFollette Utility Board held a special called meeting on Thursday afternoon regarding pending litigation. After meeting in executive session with attorneys for around 52 minutes, the board reconvened and quickly approved a settlement agreement in relation to the pending litigation.
Neither attorneys nor board members would comment on how much the settlement was for, nor who the plaintiff is.

LaFollette Utility Board Attorney Reid Troutman and LUB board members directed all media questions to attorney Courtney Read who is the “lead counsel” on the matter.

According to Read, she couldn’t comment on the litigation or the settlement “as the plaintiff had not yet agreed to it, nor had it been drafted.”
Board chairman Laura Byrge opened the meeting up and immediately called it into executive session for Board members to meet with legal counsel.
After approximately 52 minutes in executive session, the special called meeting was called back to order and a vote taken on the settlement agreement.

“Based on the discussion and the pending litigation, I need a motion to approve the settlement agreement as laid out by our attorney and she will be drafting that up,” Byrge said.
Recently appointed board member Brian Younce made the motion which was unanimously approved and the meeting was adjourned. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-07/10/2026-6AM)
