CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (WLAF)- The HEAT ADVISORY now stretches through sunset on Saturday as dangerously hot conditions persist. Air temperatures in the 90s coupled with high humidity make for feels-like temperatures expected to approach 100-degrees to 105 at times.

Today’s very hot temperatures may lead to isolated strong thunderstorm development during the late afternoon hours. The strongest of these storms could bring microbursts with damaging winds up to 60 mph as the primary threat.

…HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT SATURDAY…

* WHAT… Afternoon heat index values will approach or exceed 100 at times over all but the higher elevations, and some valley locations may see heat index values exceed 105.

* WHERE… Portions of Campbell County and East Tennessee along with southwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia.

* WHEN… Until 8 PM EDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS… Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on elatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
