JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- “Overcharges” paid by the county to the Caryville Jacksboro Utility were discussed by commissioners on Monday evening at the commission workshop. The county says the utility district overcharged it by $510,755 and is requesting a settlement for the money. The commission discussed that if negotiations for a settlement are not reached between attorneys by July 24th, it plans to seek assistance from the Tennessee Board of Utility Regulation.
At the May commission meeting commissioners had asked county attorney Joe Coker to speak to Caryville Jacksboro Utility attorney Rob Asbury and to send him documents related to the issue showing the overcharges, which according to county officials date back to around three years ago.

Coker said he had spoken to Asbury, who told him that an attorney in Nashville was handling it for the Caryville Jacksboro Utility.
Coker said that he felt there was a breakdown in communication and told the commission he had sent the documents regarding the issue to that attorney in Nashville who said he would review them and get back to him. Commissioners asked Coker to report to the commission at next Monday’s meeting.
“So basically, we are waiting to see if we hear back from the gentleman in Nashville. Mr. Coker will let us know where we stand Monday night. We need to make a decision and go from there,” County Commission Chairman Johnny Bruce said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/09/2026-6AM)
