LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- A head on collision on West Central Avenue claimed the life of a man.

Just before 8pm Tuesday, a bicycle was headed toward La Follette in the outside westbound lane while a 2022 GMC Sierra was Jacksboro bound in the same lane, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The bicycle struck the truck head on in the area of JR’s Tires and South 17th Street, based on the THP report.

As a result, West Central Avenue was closed for more than two hours. Traffic was detoured onto West Central Avenue over the tracks and by way of West Beech Street.

Jason Neely, 56, was riding the bicycle and was transported to the La Follette Medical Center where he died, according to one official. The driver of the truck, 39 -year- old Rocky Bailey, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured.
