CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (WLAF)- There are three contested races on today’s May 2026 Primary ballot, Campbell County’s first primary election in 30 years. Polls are open from 9am until 8pm. WLAF’s live coverage begins at 7:30pm with hosts Chancellor Elizabeth Asbury, Clerk and Master Dennis Potter and WLAF’s Susan Sharp and Jim Freeman.
Sheriff’s candidate Darryl Chapman is challenging incumbent Wayne Barton on the Republican ticket. The winner will become the next sheriff after getting at least one vote in the General Election in August.
Maria Partin and Lance Wilson are vying on the Republican ticket for County Clerk. With a win, Partin or Wilson will advance to the August General Election to face Tyler King, an Independent.
For the Republican nod for School Board District 2, it’s Emily Gaylor versus Chris Honeycutt. That winner will run in August against Independent Brooke Longmire Dorton and Democrat Marvin Rutherford.
