JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- Thursday is the last day to early vote, but it is not the last day to vote in the May primary.
For those who don’t make it to the election commission to cast an early ballot, the usual polling places will be open on Tue., May 5, from 9am until 8pm. CLICK HERE for information on voting districts.
“Early voting just gives you an option to avoid lines at the polls,” said Administrator of Elections Mallory Rosenfeld.
MAY 5 PRIMARY ELECTIONS
In the May 5 primary voters will be asked to choose if they want a Republican or Democrat ballot.
“You are committing for that ballot only,” she said. “You are only signing up for a ballot.”
This does not dictate how someone can vote in the August General Election.
AUGUST 6 COUNTY GENERAL ELECTION/ STATE PRIMARY
“Everyone will receive a county general ballot for this election,” Rosenfeld said. In the general county election people can vote for any candidate. They do not have to affiliate with a party.
However, the August election is also a state primary with the offices of governor; U.S. Senate; U.S. House; the Tennessee House along with the Republican/ Democratic State Executive Committees being on the ballot. Voters will have to choose if they want a Republican or Democrat ballot for state races only.
