NTHS promotes student excellence and leadership in career and technical education

Attendance topped 200 at Thursday’s TCAT ceremony at the La Follette Methodist Church.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- On Thursday evening, the Tennessee College of Applied Technology- Jacksboro (TCAT) recognized its National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) students. Fifty-one TCAT Jacksboro students were inducted into the NTHS during the ceremony held at the La Follette Methodist Church.

“The purpose of the National Technical Honor Society is to promote student excellence and leadership in career and technical education and to recognize educational achievements. What makes tonight’s honorees different is that they set and achieve goals and overcome obstacles on their way to success,” said Chandy Rogers. Rogers is in her 12th year as TCAT’s NTHS Advisor and serves as the college’s Administrative Office Technology and Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Instructor.

“Career and Technical Education (CTE) believes in empowering students in their journey to build their careers,” Chandy Rogers (above), TCAT’s NTHS Advisor. Rogers added that TCAT is in step with NTHS as TCAT’s slogan is “We Build Careers”.
Scouting America Troop 310, under the direction of Chris and Crystal Thacker, presented the colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
In attendance was Jo Huddleston Rutherford, left, now retired, started her career with the State of Tennessee after graduating from TCAT in 1970. TCAT President Debbie Petree, thrilled to meet Rutherford, offered congratulations to the NTHS honorees.
NTHS honoree Hannah Orick, a TCAT Administrative Office Technology Student, shared the goal and purpose of NTHS.
Heather Bayless is a Practical Nursing Student and NTHS honoree explained the colors of NTHS.
TCAT College Vice-President Jada Stanley shared the Seven Attributes of Success of Skill, Honesty, Service, Responsibility, Scholarship, Citizenship and Leadership.
TCAT faculty and staff worked tirelessly to make Thursday’s event such a success.
Practical Nursing, Instructor Assistant Jill Browning lit the candles.
Dr. Debbie Petree is always working to recruit students, young and old.
Whitney Kulas, who received the largest round of applause, was among the 51 NTHS honorees on Thursday.
