LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The Boston Department Store on East Central Avenue in Downtown Lafollette opened June 1940. The store was a partnership between Morris Goldstein and Salomon Geller. The manager was Raymond Engle.
In January of 1976, Millard McKinney become the owner and president of the corporation. The Boston Store occupied this building in 1978, now part of Smith ACE Hardware. The building next door, formerly The Leader Store (department store), is now today Lindsay’s Carpet & Paint Center.
It was March 1983 when McKinney moved the store to the former Powell’s 5 & 10 Cent store building. The Boston Department Store officially closed in the early 1990s. The Boston was a part of Downtown Lafollette for more than 50 years. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/05/2026-6AM)
