Wlaf1450Ugly game with Scott becomes beautiful win for the Lady Cougars
HUNTSVILLE, TN (WLAF)- A big three from Campbell Senior Reagan Davis and a big miss by Scott at the buzzer closed the regular season with a win for Campbell, 39-38.
Campbell spotted Scott the first eight points on the afternoon before the Lady Cougars scored 10 of the next 12 points to knot the game at 10. Scott posted nine of the next 12 points to take a 19-13 edge at the half.
Just into the third quarter, Scott opened it largest lead, nine, at 22-13. The Lady Cougars caught Scott for a second time on the day at 27 right before the third quarter closed.
A right side lay in by Reagan Davis gave Campbell its first lead, 29-28, a minute into the final quarter. The Lady Cougars built that lead out to five on four points from Taraji Abernathy on back-to-back trips. Scott promptly tied the game at 33.
Scott regained the lead at 35-33 and pushed the lead to 37-33. With 1:40 to go in the game, Abernathy made a three point play the old fashioned way with a bucket and a free throw to close to gap to one at 37-36.
Davis made a top of the key three with 1:12 to go to give the Lady Cougars the lead for good at 39 to 37. Scott made a free throw with 1:01 left but missed a right wing three as time expired.
The win ends Campbell’s regular season at 13 & 9.
Abernathy was tops with 13 points while Preslee Chapman was also in double-digits with 10. Reagan Davis and Kaylee Albright tallied seven points each. Karlie Allen chipped in two on a day when every point had to count.
The Cougars finished their regular season on a rough note as Scott won the late day game 82 to 58. Koalton Cupp was tops for the Orange-n-Blue will 14 while Jack Sexton made double-figures with 11. Caden Heatherly put up nine points as eight each came from Will Croley and Jake Hatmaker. Braydon Graham’s four points and Hunter Dotson’s two rounded out the scoring.
At 5 & 20 is how the Cougars regular season comes to an end.
