NASHVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- This story is from 2025. State Representative Dennis Powers, R-Jacksboro, (far right in photo above) announced today the cities of LaFollette and Luttrell will receive a combined $2.83 million in grant funding through the Local Parks and Recreation Fund program.

LaFollette will receive $2.77 million for the first phase of a new sports complex.

The project includes construction of an access road, parking lot, three ball fields, a restroom and concession building and an ADA-compliant walkway. Luttrell will receive $55,000 to install inclusive playground equipment and improve surfacing for the public playground. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s (TDEC) Office of Outdoor Recreation awarded the grants.

“These investments will make a real difference in our communities,” Powers said. “They will create more opportunities for children and families to enjoy the outdoors while also supporting local growth and quality of life. I’m grateful to TDEC for recognizing the importance of these projects.”

This year, the TDEC Office of Outdoor Recreation has awarded more than $22 million in Local Parks and Recreation Fund grants to 31 communities across Tennessee.

The program provides state matching funds for local government investments in parks, natural areas, greenways and recreational facilities. All projects must be located on publicly owned land.

Dennis Powers represents District 36 which includes Campbell, Union and part of Claiborne Counties.
