Penny Lynn Jeffers is free on bond this morning after second DUI

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- A driver on South Cumberland Avenue called police about a possible reckless driver on Tuesday afternoon. La Follette Police Officer Kaleigh Norman responded to the 3:40pm call and soon spotted the green Toyota Corolla described by the complainant.

Norman caught up with the car as it traveled west on East Beech Street. The officer followed and observed the actions of the driver for almost two miles before conducting a traffic stop in the parking lot near Five-O Fades Barber Shop.

Norman alleged she saw the driver, Penny Jeffers, weave and swerve within her travel lane several times, nearly cross the center line only to quickly veer back into her lane with what appeared to be a sudden jerk.

Upon contact with Jeffers, Norman observed Jeffers eyes to be glossy with abnormally dilated pupils and slurred speech, according to the LPD report.

LPD Officer Joseph Hicks arrived and asked Jeffers if she had anything to drink or taken any medication. Jeffers allegedly stated that she only took blood pressure medicine. However, Jeffers explained she suffered a broken ankle four years ago, and her foot began to cramp causing her to swerve.

Jeffers allegedly refused a field sobriety test. Once Jeffers got out of her car, she was unsteady on her feet and used her car to keep her balance, based on the police report.

Hicks discovered a small, clear bad containing a white substance inside Jeffers purse, the report said. The substance was believed to be meth.

The 55- year- old Jeffers of 803 East Prospect Street, La Follette was charged with DUI, her second, according to records at the Campbell County Jail.

Jeffers was released just before midnight on Tuesday on a $3,000 bond. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-12/04/2025-6AM)
