WLAF Alum makes his college radio play-by-play debut on Wednesday night

By Clayton Carroll
CLARKSVILLE, TN (WLAF) – On Wednesday afternoon, I put on my navy blazer, white dress shirt, khaki pants, and special Austin Peay tie and drove to F & M Bank Arena in downtown Clarksville for what would be my first-ever collegiate play-by-play broadcast.
To say that I have been blessed throughout my brief time in college so far would be an absolute understatement. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities I have had up to this point and am beyond thrilled to take this next step of calling Austin Peay Governors Women’s Basketball.
After taking it all in…the 5,500-seat arena, the courtside view, and the numerous stat packs and media guides… it was finally time for the pregame show.

After starting the broadcast with my typical “Greetings and Welcome”, my color announcer, Dillon Walton, and I were off and running. Pregame flew by, and truth be told, the whole broadcast did.
Other than seeing the Govs upset the #19 team in the country, I could not have asked for a better college debut. What many expected to be a blowout was a physical, fast-paced, and scrappy basketball game that neither team took control of until the final 2 minutes.
Austin Peay, even though being undersized, played with a remarkable amount of effort. However, that effort came up just short, falling to Vanderbilt 75-65.
As the rest of the season is concerned, as Dillon and I said on the broadcast, “If you can hang with Vanderbilt, you can beat anybody on any given day.” So stay tuned, as it is sure to be an exciting broadcasting season.
After finishing up post-game comments and interviewing Head Coach Brittany Young, my first collegiate broadcast was in the books.

I won’t get to dwell on it for too long, however, as Austin Peay hosts Indiana State on Sunday at 1pm.
Letsgopeay.com will have all the action via WAPX-FM. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/13/2025-6AM-PHOTOS SUBMITTED)
